Lark & Clover started with a Sunday and not enough chairs. The friends came anyway, somebody brought a folding stool, and the thing everyone remembered afterwards was not the table — it was the afternoon.
That is roughly the whole idea. The pieces we make are meant to be used: worn on a school run and a supper, put in the wash, put back on. Filled with flowers, wiped down, filled again.
Good enough to keep, easy enough to actually use. We were tired of the other arrangement — the nice thing kept in the cupboard for a day that never comes.

To live with it
Every piece earns its way on for three reasons — how it is made, how it wears, and whether it still looks lovely after a year of ordinary use. If the answer to the third one is no, it does not go on the site.
Fabric first. It has to wash well, dry sensibly and keep its shape. One good linen shirt beats a drawer of nearly-right ones.
How we got here
The beginning
Not enough chairs and too many people, and an afternoon nobody wanted to end. It turned out the table was never the point — what mattered was that everything on it could be used, spilled on, and put straight back out.
Early days
No launch anyone remembers. She plans the house and the wardrobe on the same board, and Pinterest is where she does it — so that is where she met us first, saving a linen dress next to a kitchen shelf.
Word of mouth
Pins got saved, re-pinned and sent on, and somewhere between a shared board and a “you have to see this” message, a shop grew. Still the way most people arrive.
Since then
Photographs left unretouched, sizes listed as the sizes we actually hold, and a fit note written by someone who wore it on a normal day rather than for a camera.
Today
The same eye picks the dress and the cloth it ends up sitting at. Both halves of the shop pass the same test, because they end up in the same week.
We do not sit on warehouses of stock. Your order is made and sent on demand, which means a slightly longer wait — and better prices, far less waste, and nothing ending up in a landfill because we guessed the season wrong.

The range moves with the season and a colour that sells through will not always come back. We would rather tell you that than pretend the shelf is bottomless.
